Ensure you are using the most specific terms available for the individual or group you are describing, if this information is available and can be found1.

If a colonial anglicized name was previously used, research and use the Indigenous name of the community. Colonial anglicized names can be provided with context if these provide additional discoverability.

EXCEPTION
Colonial anglicized name in the title of published work. In this instance preserve the title of the work but provide the traditional name(s) in the Note field of the description for optimal discoverability.
